The Congress party's Central Election Committee (CEC) is set to convene for its second meeting at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi on Monday evening, according to party sources. Chaired by party national president Mallikarjun Kharge, the meeting is scheduled for 6 pm and is expected to be attended by Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party MP Rahul Gandhi.

Sources indicate that the meeting will focus on discussions regarding the allocation of Lok Sabha seats in several key states, including Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh.

This meeting follows the release of Congress' first list of candidates for 39 Lok Sabha constituencies on March 8, which included candidates for seats in Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Telangana, and Tripura.

Of the total 39 candidates announced, 16 hail from Kerala, seven from Karnataka, six from Chhattisgarh, and four from Telangana. Additionally, two candidates each were announced from Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, and Lakshadweep.

The release of the candidate list came after the first Central Election Committee meeting held on March 7. Speaking at a press conference, KC Venugopal highlighted that out of the 39 candidates, 15 are from the General category, while 24 represent SC, ST, OBC, and minority communities.

In the lead-up to the Lok Sabha polls likely to be held in April-May this year, the BJP has already unveiled its first list of 195 candidates, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle.
